Semarang, August 10, 2026 — The Master’s Program in Linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities (FIB), Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), hosted a visiting team from the Indramayu State Polytechnic, led by Dr. Ir. Mohammad Yani, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., Head of the Center for Research and Community Service (P3M) at the institution. The visit served as an opportunity to discuss the potential for developing artificial intelligence (AI)-based computational linguistics research focused on the Indramayu dialect of Javanese.
The Indramayu State Polytechnic team held discussions with the Head of the UNDIP Master’s Program in Linguistics, Prihantoro, S.S., M.A., Ph.D. The discussion centered on developing computational resources to support research and documentation of the Indramayu Javanese dialect through computational linguistics approaches and AI technology.
Technical topics addressed included the development of parallel corpora and alignment, Part-of-Speech (POS) tagging, Named Entity Recognition (NER), and mechanisms for linguistic data verification and validation. Developing these resources is considered crucial not only for linguistic research but also as a foundation for creating various language- and AI-based applications.
During the discussion, both parties addressed the importance of having high-quality, structured linguistic data available as computational resources. Well-documented data can serve as a foundation for developing Natural Language Processing (NLP) models and applications, while also supporting efforts to preserve and utilize regional languages in the digital age.
Beyond technical aspects, the meeting briefly touched upon prospects for scholarly publication and opportunities for further cooperation. Collaboration between the institutions is expected to yield joint research that contributes to both language technology development and linguistic studies of regional languages—specifically the Indramayu dialect of Javanese.
Prof. Dr. Alamsyah, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at UNDIP, expressed his appreciation for the visit and the collaborative initiative proposed by the Indramayu State Polytechnic. He noted that such meetings are vital for expanding academic networks and bringing together diverse areas of expertise to foster research innovation.
This visit also highlights the importance of synergy among higher education institutions in responding to advancements in artificial intelligence and language technology. Through cross-institutional and interdisciplinary collaboration, the development of linguistic technology is expected not only to drive innovation but also to contribute to the documentation, preservation, and utilization of Indonesia’s regional languages.
